When Wilnie Rose first walked into her design studio, she felt what many high achieving students of color carry quietly. A voice asking if she truly belonged.
As a JADE Fellow, she chose to speak that truth out loud. In her capstone presentation, Rose challenged the idea of imposter syndrome. She asked everyone to consider that the problem is not the student, but the system.
Her message was simple and powerful. You are not imagining it. You are reacting to environments that were not built with you in mind. And students and designers deserve better.
That moment captured what the JADE Fellowship is all about. When students are supported, encouraged, and surrounded by a cohort that believes in them, they begin to lead. They question assumptions. They create space for others. They change the culture around them.
On Giving Tuesday, December 2nd, you will have the chance to meet students like Rose and see firsthand why investing in design education matters at the Designing Futures Breakfast Fundraiser. The morning will also honor Dr. Lakita Costner, whose work has helped young people across Philadelphia see themselves as creators and innovators.
Your support directly impacts the JADE Fellowship and the next generation of design leaders who are ready to shape a more inclusive future.
We hope you will join us.
