Emerging designer Nnennia Mazagwu of N’ulo Adaeze Studio has made waves in the design community by securing 2nd place in the People’s Choice competition, "Creating Connections." The competition, which saw transformative design installations at Thanks-Giving Square in Dallas, TX, was judged by Mitchell Silver, the 2024 Bacon Competition Honoree.
Mazagwu's winning project, "Resonance," features innovative zero-gravity chairs designed to make urban spaces more accessible and comfortable. Her work is rooted in the idea of fostering nonverbal communication and co-regulation among city dwellers. "Breathing together is really good. It’s nonverbal communication, but it’s still communication going on with you and another person," Mazagwu explains. Her design aims to create environments where people can connect and find comfort in shared spaces, highlighting the importance of accessibility in urban design.
The "Creating Connections" competition was a collaborative effort involving BetterBlock, Common Era, Humancraft, and the Thanks-Giving Square Foundation. Mazagwu's design not only captivated the public but also demonstrated her commitment to reimagining urban spaces to be more inclusive and engaging.
Nnennia Mazagwu’s work will be prominently featured during the upcoming DesignPhiladelphia Festival, where attendees can experience her zero-gravity chairs firsthand. This recognition marks a significant achievement for Mazagwu, solidifying her place as a rising star in the design world.
