Sam the Landscape Architect by Shannon Gapp is a charming and educational book that inspires children to follow their passions, embrace creativity, and make a positive impact on their surroundings. Sam explores outdoor spaces and with the help of his friends and family, Sam uses his creativity and problem-solving skills to design beautiful landscapes that enhance the environment and bring joy to those around him.
Families will bring a photo in of their child’s favorite type of landscape- the beach, mountains, city, outer space, etc. We will then duplicate the space on a poster board and re-design the area by adding in architectural and natural elements and rearrange other parts so that the landscape becomes even more magical, playful and fun to be in.
Workshop Series
We invite you to our READ + MAKE workshops as we explore various design mediums with inspiration from a children’s’ book and guided hands-on projects by professional designers. These workshops are ideal for families of 7–13-year-old children who would like to learn about the fundamental principles of design that may complement your student’s education or that may be an entirely new interest. All workshops are free, although registration on the DesignPhiladelphia Education website is required.
The design professionals who are teaching the workshops have had the required background clearances from the School District of Philadelphia
