Join us for the 4th Annual JADE Symposium. Convening the region's design schools faculty, students, and industry professionals, the day will be filled with authentic discussions about how to create a more inclusive and welcoming experience for all students in architecture and design education.
We are excited to welcome our keynote speakers, WAI Architecture Think Tank!
WAI Architecture Think Tank is a planetary studio invested in critical spatial practices, and the development of alternative and public design curricula about the built, destroyed, and imagined environments. Founded in Brussles in 2008 by Cruz Garcia (Rio Piedras), and Nathalie Frankowski (Roanne), and today joined by Ema Yuizarix, WAI oscillates between Puerto Rico, France, and the USA. WAI is one of their several platforms of public engagement that include the alternative trade school LOUDREADERS and the anti-disciplinary collective Post-Novis.
Garcia and Frankowski are Associate Professors at Iowa State University. Their work has been part of the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial and exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou Metz, Neues Museum Nuremberg, Museum of Modern Art New York, and the Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology Lisbon.
They are authors of The Pocket Universal Principles of Architecture; Universal Principles of Architecture: 100 Archetypes, Methods, Conditions, Relationships, and Imaginaries; A Manual of Anti-Racist Architecture Education; Narrative Architecture: A Kynical Manifesto; Pure Hardcore Icons: A Manifesto on Pure Form in Architecture; and co-editors of Reparations! (Journal of Architectural Education), Networks of Solidarity (InForma Journal), The Planetary Wretched: A Post-Colonial Narrative Architecture Poetry Book, and From LandGrab to LandBack / LandBack Landscape Poems.
