Clemens Construction Company is a full-service general and carpentry contractor based in Philadelphia, PA. Our diverse portfolio reflects expertise with complex urban infill, historic preservation, and creative fit-out projects. Founded by James X. Clemens, the company began as an interior commercial contractor specializing in retail, banking, and high-end corporate office projects. Clemens quickly built a reputation for providing excellent quality and personalized service. In 1997, Jim Clemens retired and sold the firm to the current president and former architect, Stephen W. Pouppirt. In the years since, Clemens has evolved into one of the Northeast’s most trusted general contractors, offering complete renovations of existing structures and ground-up new construction across numerous market sectors including multifamily, mixed-use, hospitality, education, healthcare, life sciences, commercial, office, retail, public recreation centers, and beyond.

What sets Clemens apart is its in-house Carpentry Division and Mill Shop, a legacy tied to founder Jim Clemens' mastery as a carpenter. Established in 2018, these divisions keep the tradition of excellence alive by allowing the company to self-perform all carpentry-related trades. This not only grants Clemens full control over project schedules but also optimizes supervision and manpower staffing, ensuring skilled craftsmen are readily available for each project's specific needs.

Throughout its journey, Clemens Construction Company has maintained a steadfast commitment to quality and building up our community. As a respected leader in the industry, we develop meaningful, long-lasting relationships with owners, developers, architects, designers, trade partners, and local unions. We strive to assemble diverse teams and support WBE, MBE, and DBE firms and embrace opportunities to ensure that our profession provides opportunities for all.
