What’s Behind the Theme: “Not All That is Gilded is Gold”
“Not All That is Gilded is Gold” draws inspiration from the history of Lynnewood Hall, a once-dazzling mansion now showing signs of abandonment. It celebrates both the grandeur and imperfections of this iconic estate, reminding us that even the most beautiful things can hide flaws beneath their glamorous surface. Reflecting the duality of the Gilded Age—a time of opulence and hidden decay—Lynnewood Hall stands as a testament to both breathtaking beauty and the passage of time.

This theme also nods to our commitment to increasing design accessibility and equity in Philadelphia, emphasizing that something gilded, shiny, or expensive isn’t always the best. Often, a project by an unknown designer can have more impact than one from a more “gilded” designer. At its heart, it’s the breadth, grit, and determination of our design community that sets Philadelphia apart.

Incorporating the Theme into Your Attire:
Step into the past by embracing the extremes of the Gilded Age, Ewdwardian Age, Or Roaring 20s!  Whether it is rich golds or sleek blacks,  symbolize the contrast with the glittering exterior or hidden flaws. You can don elaborate Gilded Age costumes with exaggerated silhouettes, capturing the spirit of lavish overindulgence, or take a modern approach with a bold, creative twist on the fashion of the era. Whether you channel timeless elegance or dramatic innovation, make a statement that celebrates the past galas of Lynnewood Hall. This is your moment to shine, as over-the-top and creative as the era itself!
