Carin Sauerwein
Carin Sauerwein, the founder of Dye on the Side, a nature-infused creative business built as an act of resistance to the toxic fashion industry. With over 25 years of experience in textile design, Carin left corporate fashion to reconnect with creativity, healing, and a more grounded way of making. Through hands-on workshops using foraged plants and sustainable dye practices, she invites people to connect with their senses and engage in meaningful creativity. Her work centers restoration, community connection, and sustainability that nourishes both mind and body.
Danielle Ruttenberg
Danielle Ruttenberg is a trained glassblower, entrepreneur and mother of two young children. After graduating from Tyler School of Art (2006), she founded and operated DR Glass Design, a custom glass art and fabrication business from 2007 to 2015. In 2016, Danielle co-founded Remark Glass, a fully sustainable, low-waste custom glass studio located in the revitalized Bok Building in South Philadelphia. Combining art and sustainability, Remark Glass fulfills its mission of creating sustainable art and manufacturing practices by employing traditional glassblowing techniques to repurpose discarded bottle glass into small batch home accessories. Next, in 2020, Danielle and her team went on to form Bottle Underground, a 501(c)(3) organization committed to increasing their impact in waste reduction and generating jobs for the local community. Remark Glass is the first official Gold-Level Zero Waste Partner designee by the City of Philadelphia. Danielle and the Remark team have also been recognized as a 2019 SustainPHL Business Impact Leader, 2022 Coralus US Venture, and 2023 REDF Accelerator Program graduate.
Eleisha Eagle
Eleisha Eagle is the co-founder and creative force behind SHIFT, a sustainable retail and refillery concept based in Narberth, PA. After moving to Villanova in 2016 and renovating a 200-year-old stone barn, Eleisha was inspired by sustainable building techniques of the past and the environmental impact of modern construction. This experience led her to embrace low-waste living and to extensively research sustainable practices. Drawing from her background as a touring musician and philanthropist, Eleisha emphasizes creativity, connection, and thoughtful storytelling in her sustainable business approach. Through SHIFT, she has successfully helped divert over 60,000 single-use containers from landfills, demonstrating that sustainability can be stylish, accessible, and locally-focused. She also co-hosts the podcast One Can Hope, offering a refreshing and optimistic perspective on addressing climate anxiety. Eleisha brings insightful perspectives and practical expertise to conversations on sustainable business practices, community engagement, and impactful environmental stewardship.
