Workshop and Open Studio

Join us to learn about modern furniture building in one of these hands on workshops! We'll start with a short talk about design and modern fabrication techniques followed by a demo. You will then create a custom table of your own design. Mixing and matching pre-cut parts, you’ll learn the basics of mortise and tennon joinery, gluing, clamping and assembling. This is a great way to get your feet wet if you’ve never tried woodworking before. You’ll leave with a lot of know how, bragging rights and a cute table to show off or give someone.

Tickets are required for workshop.
Open studio is FREE.

Table making will happen mostly in the first two hours. The shop will stay open for visitors, woodworking enthusiasts and chit chat.

About MLW -
Michelle Lipson has over 20 years of experience designing and building custom furniture. She teaches group continuing ed classes and private lessons at her studio on American St.

Her classes combine new technology and tools with traditional building practices and give students a strong foundation of technical skills. These detailed, guided classes can safely navigate beginners through more complicated projects and exponentially benefit design professionals who understand the big picture, but who lack the hands-on experience in the shop to give their designs integrity. The classes reflect the way small businesses are manufacturing products today: with a focus on teamwork between colleagues, an eye toward problem solving with technology, an emphasis on accuracy and craftsmanship, and an interest in collaboration with other local artisans.

Michelle firmly believes building is fun, develops our problem solving abilities and is a great asset in community building.

Covid Policy
We will check vaccine cards at the door (scans on your phone are fine). If you haven't been vaccinated, you're welcome to attend, but you will need to wear a KN-95 mask while you're in the building. You can purchase one at the door for $3.  Despite the photo shown here of maskless folks at a similar pre-covid event, all visitors attending will be required to wear a mask completely covering their mouth and nose while in the building.
