Junzo Yoshimura, Photo Album with Japanese Paper 1939-40 Credit: Collection of The Architectural Archives, University of Pennsylvania, Weitzman School of Design

Inspired by “A Bit of Japan is seen in the Eaves”, a handmade photo album that Junzo Yoshimura made during the time he lived and worked at the Raymond Farm Center for Living Arts and Design (1939-1940), this exciting tour will take visitors on a trip to New Hope, Pennsylvania, to find “a bit of Japan ” in its architecture and landscape. The tours are led by the curators and highlight the immaculate use of Japanese influence in each site’s architecture and landscape design.

Schedule: the tour will meet at Raymond Farm Center for Living Arts and Design at 10:30am for a tour of that site first, followed by a bento box lunch at 12pm, after which participants will travel to nearby Nakashima studios for a tour starting at 1pm and ending at 3pm. Bento lunch options: fish, chicken, and vegetarian. If you have any special dietary restrictions please notify us via our email info@japanphilly.org at least one week before event.

Tickets: guests have the choice of choosing a ticket option "with catalog" or "without catalog." The catalog for offer is our new "Uncrating the Japanese House" book, as part of our Shofuso and Modernism exhibition in 2020. This exhibition dealt with the relationship between Shofuso, Raymond farm, and Nakashima studios. This catalog will not be available to the public for another few months, and is valued at $45. Guests of this trip will receive the exclusive offer to purchase the catalog for $15. Please Note: Depending on the amount of catalogs available upon first pressing, guests may not receive the book on the day of the trip. Guests will instead receive the book as soon as we receive them.
